It all happened in 30 seconds🌪️ (And moving forward) 🌸

Hello! Hello!

Well, it’s been an eventful couple of weeks around here. If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen this already, but on April 29, a major storm rolled through Pittsburgh with winds clocking in at 85mph. It only lasted a few minutes, but the damage was intense. I felt the impact right in my own backyard.

Over 20 trees were ripped down across my property. Several crashed through my fence, one came down on my shed and took out the roof, and there was damage to my gardens, retaining wall, and more. It all happened in about 30 seconds. On top of that, the storm knocked out power throughout the city. I ended up being without electricity for 9 days. It’s all a bit of a blur now, and while things are slowly getting back in order, cleaning up the trees and making repairs is going to be a longer process.

And somehow, in the midst of all that, we’re almost halfway through May. How did that happen? After such a long winter, I wish time would just slow down a bit so we could soak in more of spring’s magic.

Yesterday, I got my dahlia tubers planted. In the past, I’ve had luck leaving my dahlias in the ground and having them return the following year. This time, thanks to the harsh winter, only four came back. While I wish more had survived, I’m definitely grateful for the ones that did. It also gives me an excuse to try out some new varieties. I planted 15 new dahlias, and I’m already looking forward to seeing them grow.

I also noticed that my peonies are just about ready to bloom. Peony season is one of my absolute favorites. I’ve got around 20 plants. Some are thriving, some are still getting established, and a few need a little extra love. I have a few duplicates, so I’m thinking about swapping a few out for new colors and shapes. If you’re a peony lover too, I’ve got a post on the blog with tips on using them in cut flower arrangements you might enjoy.

One quick announcementbefore I go: I’ve been working on putting together another art sale. This one includes a collection of oil paintings, small studies, a few works on paper, and some fun little extras. It’s a unique mix, and I think you’re really going to like it. I’m planning to go live with the sale later in May. I’ll be sure to send out another email and share details on Instagram once it’s ready.

Until then, be sure to swing by the blog and check out some of my new posts. I’ve shared a few of my recent favorites below.
